MONELISON MIDDLE SCHOOL

Our History: Monelison Junior High School opens its doors September 1977 to ninth, eighth and seventh grade students. The school’s name is a salute to the three communities that we serve, “Mon” for Monroe, “el” for Elon and “ison” for Madison Heights. Our school’s colors of green and gold are passed down to us from the old Central High (green) and Madison Heights Schools (gold).  The students vote for the mighty Trojan as their mascot over the Mustang and it wins by a landslide.  A new school is born!

Monelison Junior High School was noted for its commitment to excellence and outstanding athletic programs.  We even attempted to get in the Guinness Book of World Records for our accomplishments, but they did not accept junior high records! In 1978, we welcomed the sixth grade to our student body.

In 1990, Monelison became a middle school.  Our ninth grade was transferred to Amherst County High School and the middle school concept was fully implemented.

Today, Monelison is still committed to excellence in the classroom and on our athletic fields.  We are proud to be fully accredited and have met the requirements for AYP.  What makes our school great is our love of teaching and the students we teach.  No child is left behind!  We stand by our motto: be the best that YOU can be!

Our Vision: We will be recognized as a school of academic excellence. The collaborative efforts of the community and school will ensure that each child becomes a life long learner.

Our Mission: The MISSION of Monelison Middle School is to provide an APPROPRIATE education in a CARING atmosphere that CHALLENGES ALL individuals to be the BEST they can be.
